Bible Belt

Seems to be a rush of homes with potential in Bible Street a the moment. The following home is at 98 Bible Street Eltham. Needs some work but the external stone cladding and internal timber lining has got huge potential!

Charteris Drive

I have a bit of a 'thing' for steel windows. Probably because I have them in my own home but they are slim lined, easy to use, and give homes an architectural feel - particularly when painted in a dark colour (my long term plan!). This home at 35 Charteris Drive Ivanhoe has steel windows and an unusual Deco style curved window to the front of the house. Somehow I think even in the 1950's that the Art Deco period was looked on as a glorious time! I also love crazy paving and the landscaping at this home displays it in spades!

Warren Piece

74 Warren Road Viewbank. Great 60's style but needs work on the 'updated' kitchen & bathroom. Stunning views and great location though. Another one I need to check out over the weekend!!

Long way to the Top....If you want a Mid-Century Home

In pretty fabulous original condition is 32 Longs Road Lower Plenty. Check out the shine on that copper hood, the perfect bluestone toned feature wall, the warmth of the original terracotta tiled floor, the streamlined 'modern' kitchen and minimal lowline facade. I might even get along to the inspection of this one myself!

This is a great house and the location - backing onto parkland - is superb. If you are looking to buy a family house in a tucked away part of Melbourne still close to the city, then this would be perfect!!

Hello Yellow

39 Vincent Street, Macleod
Trawling through the Real Estate pages recently I have noticed a few original yellow kitchens in local homes for sale. Nice to see some 'pop' colour in mid century style kitchens!!

Sibbel shepherd

New owner required for original late 60's house at 59 Porter Street Eltham. The timber joinery handles in the kitchen are a trademark of Sibbel Builders who built many homes in the Eltham area throughout the 50's, 60's & 70's.

Sibbel Builders have been mentioned on Banyule Modern before here and here.

Relief Brickwork

While the interior shots do little to impress, the relief brickwork on the facade of 176 Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe East really expresses the mid-century style.

There are two units currently for sale - Unit 2 & Unit 11.

Rare Banksia

Just before Christmas MR and I went to check out 93 Banksia Street, Eaglemont. I've long admired this 'pair' of cream brick houses perched high on the hill overlooking Heidelberg and Rosanna and wondered about their occupants.
(Image from Google Street view)
Recently the house on the right hand side (95 Banksia St) has been extensively renovated, clad and painted. It seems like the owners have an appreciation of the Mid-Century era and the renovation is sympathetic to the original facade although I have no idea what style they have continued with inside.

93 Banksia Street was like a time capsule inside - as the photos clearly show! I have gone a bit nuts with the photos but I just couldn't resist!

(Reminds me of staying at my Grandmother's house as a child - minus the killer view!)

First floor terrace - and view through to Master Bedroom/Study. The green glass panels obscure joinery behind.
Apparently the original European owners emigrated to Australia by boat in the 50's. En-route, they met another couple who they became firm friends with. After getting  settled in Australia, they bought adjoining blocks of land in Eaglemont and built matching houses. I think they lived the rest of their days as friends and neighbours.
Wow - if those walls could talk!

On the Bible I Do Swear...

I spied this classic weatherboard house at 31 Bible Street Eltham for sale through Coventry & Co over the weekend. I just love how naturally light the interior looks. I'm also a sucker for skillion roofs so that might explain the attraction to it. You could really add to the external appearance of the house with a new external colour scheme and perhaps even modifying the rumpus room at the rear with a deck to emphasise the 60's roofline.
