Meyrick Masterpiece

I have finally returned from a year long hiatus on blogging and in that time there have been some real MCM gems come onto the market in the Banyule region. Late last year I was contacted by the proud and excited new owners of 18 Meyrick Crescent, Viewbank. Although I wasnt blogging last year, I was certainly keeping an eye on the local property market and I must admit, Meyrick was one of my favourite homes in the area so I was thrilled when AN contacted me saying that she loved the blog and would be happy to see her new house featured!
Love that butterfly roof and the highlight windows above...

Potential Plus in the family room with asymmetrical fireplace, exposed beams & highlight windows all around.
The house was architect designed in the late 1960's and has been extended and modified since then. I believe the new owners are looking to do a small renovation highlighting those fabulous Modernist bones which is exactly what we hope for here at Banyule Modern!

I want this house....

I want this house at 51 Seymour Road, Viewbank.... I want it bad!

Designed by Darlinghurst based Interior Designer Don McQualter - Retail designer for Scanlon & Theodore, Zimmerman & Mambo - it oozes a style and sophistication that belies its Viewbank address. Although I must admit I do love this pocket of the suburb having only discovered it late last year when I inspected the 'Seymour Spectacular'.

It's not exactly 'mid-century' but its design certainly employs the principles initiated by Modernism in the 50's & 60's. Alas, it is probably too grown up for me anyway. It is certainly too grown up for my bank balance ;)
Perfect kitchen!

Love the lowline fireplace, dark windows and orange rug!
Holiday feeling...

Spring Meadow

Remember the story about the ugly ducking who grew into a beautiful swan? Well I certainly think this property at 3 Meadow Court, Viewbank is an ugly duckling.... but with a little vision and a lot of elbow grease it could have a swansong!
Think painted brickwork (not rendered!!), a few repairs, a smack-up-to-date colour scheme and some native planting and landscaping - and new window coverings internally.

Tranquil Winter is Over

Thank goodness Spring has sprung! Don't know about you but I really struggled with mood & motivation this Winter. It just seemed extra long and so dreary!! I am now excited about longer, warmer days, BBQ's with friends, working in the garden and on the house and - of course - the Spring property market! For those looking for a new nest, might I suggest 6 Tranquil Winter Court, Viewbank? Not sure when it was built - possibly 1980's? I'm keen to check it out over the weekend.
Fantastic Native Garden out front
Timber lined ceilings - I'm totally a sucker for those!

Stainless Steel bench tops - For the professional cooks out there - MR would love that.
A little Aztec inspired courtyard? Lots of great windows in the living areas.

Little House on Lower Plenty

This house at 486 Lower Plenty Road, Viewbank sold earlier this year. Its an absolute time capsule! Check out the mural on the kitchen floor and the 'mod' bathroom! Despite the mid century bones, it has a 'Little House on the Prairie' vibe somehow! Interesting one.

Groovy Boomerang design on the kitchen floor!

Potential potential

Achh okayyy, I've been slack with Banyule Modern lately. 'Busy-with-other-things-slack', but slack all the same! To be honest, I didn't really think anyone was reading this but my husband and maybe my mum occasionally, but lately I have had some awesome interactions with BM readers and so I feel a bit guilty about going off the air for a coupla weeks. I have not been doing right by the potentially fabulous mid-cent homes in the greater Banyule area!!

So back to it today, and the next week and the week after etal...

Kicking off with a potentially full of potential house at 422 Lower Plenty Road, Viewbank. (Anything that just has one picture and is slated for development usually gets my heart racing). It doesn't seem to be open for inspection but I might just check it out...

Warren Piece

74 Warren Road Viewbank. Great 60's style but needs work on the 'updated' kitchen & bathroom. Stunning views and great location though. Another one I need to check out over the weekend!!

Seymour Spectacular

What a spectacular property to finish the week on! Wow, wow, wow!! And MR and I thought our garden was big! Try 6.75 undulating acres including banks of the Plenty River.

27-35 Seymour Grove Viewbank is a short walk from the Lower Plenty Hotel (but hey, don't let that disuade you!) It was designed in the 60's by architect Charles Duncan who was the winner of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (Vic.) Single House award (1965 for 4 Glenard Drive, Heidelberg) and was also involved in the Elliston Estate, Rosanna).

This superb mid-century house features extensive glazing, Daniel Robertson style bricks, original slate floors and that double sided open fireplace. Think I'll go check it out this weekend!
Perfectly sited in the landscape

Yes, that double sided open fireplace!! Floating hearth, slate floors. Fab.
