Mervyn Memories

Before MR and I bought our little slice of the Heights, we bid on 8/1 Mervyn Crescent, Ivanhoe. It looks a lot different inside today than it did when we were keen on it (except for the bathroom). Kudos to those who have completed the simple, stylish and sympathetic renovation.

Longs and Short of it

31 Longs Road, Lower Plenty is another home that could benefit from a mini-makeover. The exposed beams & ceilings, timber wall paneling and pendant light fittings inside are great bones to work with. Some groovy furniture, new window coverings, bathroom reno, external paint job and landscaping would really give this substantial home some 'wow'!

New Beginning for Old Eltham Road?

121 Old Eltham Road, Lower Plenty.
A sharp new colour scheme outside and a quick make-over inside (and groovier furniture) would do wonders for this home and make it truly covetable.

Isn't the light filtering through that pergola just magic!?

Buzby Berkeley

Another home in the green belt area is 72 Berkeley Avenue, Heidelberg. I saw it a little while ago but it slipped off my radar. Perhaps worth a look now (seeing as we are in the area!)...

Banyule Flats

MR and I got out on the weekend to enjoy the sunshine with a ride around Banyule Flats Reserve. We are so lucky to live in a green belt area with access to kilometres of parklands, playgrounds, sports fields, bike tracks etc. Its our own little slice of country life here in the city (/suburbs!).

Things are still looking scarce on the real estate pages for those looking to buy a house in Banyule with mid-century appeal. We passed this property on our way down to the park and noted that it had sold - probably for land - so this once stately family home in original condition at 167 Beverley Road, Rosanna might not be long for this town...

Best and Fairdale

I have resorted to digging back through the archives this week and I just don't know how I missed this one!! It's a great house at 6 Fairdale Court, Eltham and it sold earlier this year.
Feature fireplace, timber lined ceiling & great windows.
Brave Kitchen!
LOVE the bathroom!!

Fernside Future?

Okay, some vision needed for this one I think.... 101 Fernside Avenue, Briar Hill... But the orientation of the living areas is good and the floor plan would work well for a young family! And it does have a pool. (Okay maybe I'm clutching at straws this week!)

Love the parquetry floor! Very 60's.

Ivanhoe for Beginners

Slim pickings in Banyule for mid-century fans this week but I did spy a perfect little starter at 6/7 Waverley Avenue, Ivanhoe. Only a small unit but it has a separate entry, North facing living spaces, great windows, cute little ground floor balcony & balustrade and original kitchen. Heaps of potential here...(now i'm starting to sound like an agent!)

Hurstbridge Helper...

Sorry I haven't updated the blog for a while. Have been really busy getting RBID back into routine for 2012. I have a bunch of new clients as well as treasured existing clients which is fantastic!
Now, I know its not strictly in Banyule but I did go to visit friends in Hurstbridge recently who have just bought a great little 60's weatherboard & stone house. So much potential!! The existing living room has a great bluestone fireplace, solid timber paneling - and some slightly less great mock timber paneling. The timber windows and beams have a strong architectural presence in the interior and some of the light fittings are really fun!

We chatted about furniture styles & layout, artworks and internal paint colours and I came up with two paint colour schemes for them:
Option 1 - Leave solid timber paneling natural, paint mock timber paneling in a mid-tone & paint beams dark

Option 2 - Paint solid timber paneling in a dark colour, paint mock timber paneling & leave beams natural.
I am leaning towards option 2 as I think there is something nice about the exposed timber beams relating to the timber window frames. Leave a comment and tell me which scheme you like best!

Lower Plenty Lush

Lower Plenty has really just recently hit my radar since the amazing property MR and I went to see in November. You really could be out the back of Hurstbridge somewhere, it is so hilly, treed and private - yet you are only about 20mins drive to the city. 37 Edwards Street, Lower Plenty seems to have the bones of mid-century style sitting quietly in the landscape. Earthy materials and colours help it to blend in to its setting and the proliferation of windows bring the outside in.

And then there is the kitchen and those splashback tiles..!
