Corowa Cool

Simplicity and refined style never dates. This is why I think this Fasham Johnston home at 58 Corowa Crescent Greensborough built in the 80's/90's still looks as cool today as it did the day it was built. And I bet its fabulous to live in too - with North facing living areas, timber lined ceilings throughout and in-slab heating. I'm kinda wondering why I didn't see it sooner!

Ivanhoe 50's

A touch of 'retro' has been retained in the renovation of this late 50's brick gem at 77 Locksley Road, Ivanhoe. Not sure that this home actually sold - it may have been withdrawn by the owner.

Eaglemont Nest

Another local home on a huge allotment of 1385m2 has just sold at 28 Brooke Street, Eaglemont. The listing mentions that the home was architect designed in the 50's but I'm not sure who the architect was. It has a 'T'-shaped floor plan with an unusually large footprint for the 50's.

Hume & Hovell

As the Mid Century Modern pickings in Banyule are decidedly slim at the present time, I have dug out a few gems that I may have missed in the recent past...

I just couldn't resist entitling this post Hume & Hovell - sorry - but it would sure take a lot of work to bring it up to desirable living standards! 104 Hume Street, Greensborough sold on the 24th November 2012. As it sits on 1065m2 of land so I'm pretty sure it will get demolished to make way for townhouses. I think it's worth including on the blog as a record of what once stood!

Pinnaroo Pool

In need of a bit of love and 'vision', this house at 9 Pinnaroo Court, Greensborough has an interesting floor plan. The house curves around the central pool, much like the way Peter McIntyre's 'Coil House' curves around two magnificent gum trees.

The house has a newly renovated kitchen which is pretty contemporary and the bathrooms have also been renovated. Price range is quoted at $450,000-500,000 - what a great entry level home with potential to renovate into something really retro & cool!

Another One!

Another Mid-Century home ear marked for development in Montmorency. When you look at the condition of the house inside - solid timber floors, ducted heating, fresh paintwork, modern kitchen - it makes me cringe that some people would send all of it to the scrapheap, to make money. This is not a sustainable future!

A River Runs Through It

Sad to see this great home at 27 River Street Briar Hill advertised for land value only. It is on a large block but the house looks very solid and in good condition. Thanks Modernist Australia for bringing it to my attention.
