East Side, West Side, Braeside

North facing entry - gorgeous...
I must confess I recently fell in love with this little number at 4 Braeside Avenue, Rosanna. MR and I thought we might have found our next mid century abode. Maybe it was time to move from West Side to Braeside... but after much deliberation, we decided its just a little on the teensy side and with a big dog and a little baby, well it would just be too much of a squeeze. If only stamp duty & agents fees weren't so high and we could buy & sell every 5 years!!  The current owners have given it a bit of a make-over, painting outside and in.  I thought it was a bit of shame they have painted the timber lining boards that feature in the living room (either side of fireplace), dining room and entry and also the timber framed glass doors between the entry and the living room, but its all very fresh and still retains all the great features that made it so 'Modern' when it was built in 1964. I'm sure the new owners will love living here! *sigh*

Hi-Loc Close Up

East Facing Window Wall on Locksley Street
Here's a close up of 'Hi-Loc Close' - Unit 3/101 Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe is currently up for sale and has some primo mid-century style - namely those fab East facing windows. Not sure if these apartments were designed by an architect of note? Great apartment in a premium suburb and location.

Huge bedroom - Would get lovely morning sun!

I want this house....

I want this house at 51 Seymour Road, Viewbank.... I want it bad!

Designed by Darlinghurst based Interior Designer Don McQualter - Retail designer for Scanlon & Theodore, Zimmerman & Mambo - it oozes a style and sophistication that belies its Viewbank address. Although I must admit I do love this pocket of the suburb having only discovered it late last year when I inspected the 'Seymour Spectacular'.

It's not exactly 'mid-century' but its design certainly employs the principles initiated by Modernism in the 50's & 60's. Alas, it is probably too grown up for me anyway. It is certainly too grown up for my bank balance ;)
Perfect kitchen!

Love the lowline fireplace, dark windows and orange rug!
Holiday feeling...

One for Miss Rosanna

This must be one of Greensborough's more interesting homes - 89 Hailes Street, Greensborough is for the Deco lovers out there. I know there are a few of them including Miss Rosanna! (p.s. If you live in the Banyule area you really should check out her fantastic Blog).

Yep - you know I like a good fireplace! This one looks like varnished bricks - good rich colour - and a mesh curtain to control sparks.
The bigger picture - Fantastic sized room and lovely light pouring in through those curved windows!
Light and Airy - Great access to rear deck.

This house could look even more fabulous with a slightly more dramatic colour scheme and what I call 'Hollywood Style' landscaping (think green leafy Strelizias, Monsterias and Agave's).

I worked on a similar style home in Beaumaris a couple of years ago whilst at Austin Design Associates and it transformed the house from a peachy nothing to a house with real 'wow' factor.

Eagles Nest

5 Eagle Court, Eaglemont has classic appeal from the outside but inside is a strange hybrid of 60's & 70's design. I think the best feature of this home is the sensational picture window in the living room. It is for sale through Miles Real Estate.
